Skin Concerns
Your skin is amazing!
Your skin is the largest organ of your body and as well as being responsible for your outward appearance, it also has several other functions. It protects you from the elements and from microbes, it helps to regulate your body temperature, provides touch, heat, cold and pain sensation, is able to absorb vitamins, water, oxygen and other beneficial substances as well as being able to excrete toxins and secrete oils to moisturise the skin and protect it from damage.
Your skin consists of several layers, the outermost part is the epidermis, which is responsible for your skin tone and to provide a waterproof barrier. The epidermis also contains pigment cells, called melanocytes, which are responsible for your skin colour. Beneath this is the dermis, made up of collagen and other proteins, which is responsible for the firmness and smoothness of your skin. It also contains hair follicles and sweat glands. Finally, below this is the hypodermis or subdermal layer which contains fat and connective tissue and creates the volume of your face and skin.
Ageing, photodamage, disease, pollutants, toxins and poor skincare can lead to a disruption to your skin and lead to a variety of skin concerns.
